Let off Some Steam! Irelands Best Activities
In a nation that is centered around pubs and, at one time, nightclubs (fewer by the day in 2024), Irish culture does not naturally accommodate sober activities. However, as time has passed, the country is progressing, and with that, many emerging pastimes don’t include a receipt of a blinding headache. The Hot Box is at the forefront of this revolution.
Starting in 2021, The Hot Box combines a sauna experience with a one-of-a-kind view, a cold plunge, a river swim, and a hot tub. In three locations (Bective Mill House-Meath, Graiguenamanagh Tinnahinch-Carlow, and Rosses Point-Sligo), the charm and beauty are truly undeniable.
Both Paul and I got to experience the Bective Mill House location in mid-April, and we couldn’t have been more surprised. Despite a high level of expectation due to their well-run social media pages, it still did not paint a realistic picture of the area’s true beauty, the well-kept amenities, and the very accommodating staff.
The private sauna, which costs 60 euros for four people for a forty-five-minute session, not only clears the sinus, opens the pores, and soothes the head but is designed with a large window to give a view of the breathtaking surroundings.
The hot tub is also a sight to behold as it is slap bang in the centre view of the river. For 50 euros for up to three people for 45 minutes, we couldn’t recommend it more. The temperature and comfort of the hot tub itself are perfect for unwinding after a long day or even an early morning.
Finally, the cold plunge and river swim (while not my cup of tea) were great additions, giving Paul the true experience of temperature disparity. While challenging to attempt, the health benefits from the combination of said activities are undeniable. With many studies indicating an improvement in mental health, assistance in physical recovery, reduction of the risk of cardiovascular/respiratory disease, and finally prevention of dementia.
Whether you’re a group of lads, a couple, or work colleagues, The Hot Box is the place to go in 2024, and we predict it will only become bigger moving forward.
